Jogger sketch

I wanted to play with the contrast of matte clothing vs shiny skin. Joggers are sexy, but it seems boring to me. I'd rather dance instead, it's like jogging in place.

Random dump of a couple of things I've been working on. Top is my friend Noah making chicken and waffles, the second is me being bored of conversations leading nowhere. I need to update more.

Now with underboob.

More blood on pagan cave girls, it's like a thing I do now. I am honored to know the empowered women I've met, but you should know that you're all very intimidating and fascinating to me. I think that's where these come from. We'll see where this one goes!

Rosy Hills

Been working on this, trying to be more fast and painterly. This was inspired by an old drawing I had done many years ago but never quite painted. I was motivated to render it after some recent events.

Alia Takes a Bath, part II

This is a continuation of the livestream painting. I really enjoy this one, although the perspective on the bathtub is killing me. Every time I make a composition change with the bathtub I have to adjust the perspective. This is why you figure this crap out in the beginning instead of later :( The black nebulus in the background will probably fade off into a galaxy-looking kind of abstractness.

Chun Colors

Added color. Haven't worked like this in a while, far more anal than how I'm used to working. I should probably  find a looser balance with my work so I can leave my sketchier lines, inking is such a PAIN. Honestly I think I like the lines by themselves more than with the color... oh well.

Chun Li Lines

More line art. Chun Li is one of my all time favorite game characters, I draw her often. I really do like to draw in comic-book styles and use dynamic poses, i just rarely find an excuse to do it even in my personal work. Getting back into lines is refreshing! Still needs some tweaks, and one day I will also color this.

Livestream

I lied. Sorry, I like painting girls. BWAHAHAHAHA.

This was the result of a livestream test I did on 7/7. This is a scene from Dune Messiah, of Alia being really pissed in a bathtub. I'll probably take it further later. Apparently, krys knives float. I saved the recording, which you can check out on my new livestream channel at:

Some Changes 'Round Here

Soooo I figured I'd just redirect my website straight to this blog, since it was very outdated (3 years... -_-). In Lieu of this I've included separate pages at the top of my blog, a page with my bio and a small gallery page. Now it functions pretty much like a regular website except hella easy to manage! Also, I've been trying to return to my roots as a line artist recently, in light of recent projects. I used to be really into comic-book/animation style work, but sort of lost my way as I was trying to become better at painting. Now I feel i can return to it with fresh eyes, see what new artists I like and steal their techniques! This particular design is a character I've had for a LONG time (since I was 16!) named Agrat, who is essentially a succubus queen. I was inspired by people like Wendling and Bartucci, some of my line art heroes... I am a big fan of European artists, Heavy Metal, etc when it comes to the styles/subject matter I lean to. I promise I'll post something other than girls next time!

Winter's Melting

Preview of another pin-up I've been toilin' on, only half the image. I've been getting in the habit of painting girls in hot situations around this time of year, sort of to celebrate summer coming. I can try all I like to be a srs bsns artist, I can't stop drawing girls all the time... Oh well!

EDIT 6/2/11: Meh, i just uploaded the finished version since i did it the next day, lul. Heels on the beach?! PREPOSTEROUS.

Bachelor frog WIP

My roommate/coworker/friend Cory and I got the bright idea to theme our apartment with frogs in honor of Foul Bachelor Frog, complete with paintings of him above our fireplace. I just got to work on it today, I already have the gaudiest frame I could find for under 20 dollars in a thrift store. It will be grand. This isn't done, also I'm experimenting with displaying my steps horizontally... What do you prefer? I think I need to make him more extravagant. Also, If you don't know what Foul Bachelor Frog is and want to look him up, be warned... he is rather foul.

Oh, and if you don't know Osama Bin Laden died on this day.

Lady Sketches II

More girl doodles, funny how it ended up being some cliche blonde/brunette/redhead series like I'm painting the powerpuff girls or something. I did one randomly in a particular style and the other two followed as an exercise to keep consistency. Usually people are surprised when i do something that's not in my particular concept/illustration way of painting, but I do it pretty often when I'm painting gifts for other people. I guess I try to hone a style that is particular to other people's tastes when I do that, while making it interesting for myself. This is one of the rare times I did it just for me.

Hwi Noree update 2

Another update on Hwi Noree, I changed the spotlight effect and made the lighting less cartoony on Hwi. Still don't know what I'm doing with the background quite yet, but I definitely want to imply some sort of large space. i introduced some cooler colors with the pillows and the shadows because it definitely needed some. Next I'm gonna block in the background and work on the foreground elements. critiques, suggestions welcome.

Hwi Noree

Working on this also, most definitely not done yet-- but the pressure to show progress has motivated me to continue working on it! God Emperor of Dune has so far been my favorite Dune book. It's said that Jabba the Hut's palace was inspired by a combination of Baron Harkonnen and the image of the God Emperor with Hwi Noree, the object of His desire that he can never truly have. This depicts the moment that they meet for the first time; i tried to stay true to the descriptions in the book but I took some liberties. Leto is beginning to realize he has a weakness, and Hwi sees the tragedy of his circumstance. I really need to figure out what going on in the background... And foreground. I spent all my time on Hwi and she turned out to look like a Disney princess. Don't worry, I'll add the incense burner.

The Sphinx

Something I'm working on now-- I hate doing perspective on curves so much! I think i lost something about her face that's not in the painting and in general I think I'm gonna make her a bit bigger, those the most important changes to me right now. I also don't know if I'm happy with a square composition yet but I really wanted to show the "wing" effect.. I might even crop off the victim, I dunno. Teal and orange are so great for sci-fi lighting colors to the point of cliche so of course I had to do one. Or five.

Lady Sketches

here are a bunch of lady sketches in line I've done, since otherwise they will probably never see the light of day into full-blown drawings. I will always have a hate-love relationship with pin-up, mostly love. You might recognize some characters.

Hello There

Alright, so I'm really gonna start a blog now. I've had this account for a long time but I never really started posting or put traffic through here, so now I will. I felt like I needed a place where I could just post WIP or sketches because I don't really have an appropriate place for it. I'll post finished work too, as well as the steps leading up to it. Critiques, advice and other comments are all welcome as I start each piece. Should I post all progress shots in the same post or individually you think? If anyone has advice on that please do tell. Here's some of my previous work to get this started!
